I can't give the Super Bowl more coverage than the Oscars. I've watched them religiously since I was a kid. We are getting them on Monday morning, started at 9 a.m....well it was supposed to start at 9. They finally got reception at about 9:20. It's been pretty good. There is currently no sound, hope it comes back before it's over.
We are at this moment speeding towards Bali, a port not on our itinerary. The Captain came on the loudspeakers this morning (interrupting the Oscars!) to let us know that there is yet another medical emergency so we are moving at 22 knots to get them to a hospital in Bali, then will head toward our scheduled port, Lombok. Yesterday we were moseying along at 16 knots. Hope the passenger makes it. It will be interesting to see Bali, even if from the ship. They will be taken off by tender.
While I'm writing....two nights ago we attended the Aussie Dinner in the Pinnacle, the specialty restaurant on board. We had seen the menu when we signed up, but our first appetizer wasn't on it - kangaroo! I had wanted to taste it so here was my opportunity. It was delicious! I'm sure the chef in the grill had something to do with that, but it didn't have a gamey or lamb like taste at all. Kind of sad to be eating it after we'd fed, pet and admired so many of them just days before. The "shrimp on the barbie" was very tasty, next was crocodile soup! It tasted like chicken, no lie. LOL There were 2 main courses, barramundi and lamb. The fish was excellent. I had eaten that type one time before and hadn't cared for it. Guess the cook makes a difference! Mel said it was the best lamb he's ever had. Quality makes a difference too! He had my helping. The chef asked how we like the kangaroo. I said it was better than the lamb. He had a look of shock on his face until I told him that I don't like lamb. Dessert was pavlova, apparently Australia's national dessert. It was excellent. We are also signed up for the Murder Mystery dinner in the Pinnacle, but it's not until April 30. We may just have to eat there again sooner than that.
I just did my 2 miles around the promenade deck. The Captain announced a second medical emergency. We are sailing along at a swift pace. The water is like glass, it's that smooth. Amazing since we're out in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I saw dozens of flying fish. They almost looked like dragon flies skimming the surface of the water until they plopped back into the sea. There were a few birds flying around also. I did see one larger flying fish, probably about 10". Unfortunately I also saw a lot of debris floating in the water. Sad that other countries don't follow the rules of the cruise ships - NO pollution. With the calm seas, walking was very quiet until you hit the aft deck withe the engines rumbling below. They were churning up the water into a bright turquoise color. Beautiful.
